Rebound therapy is the therapeutic use of the trampoline to develop and promote motor skills, body awareness, balance, co-ordination and communication.
Rebound Therapy improves health and fitness and encourages greater independence; fun, enjoyment and the opportunity to succeed.
Rebound Therapy is not an isolated activity, but is an integrated part of the pupils educational programme.
Rebound Therapy is accessible to pupils with a range of special needs such as physical disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties and co-ordination problems. All participants have a thorough assessment completed by the relevant professionals involved with the child prior to participation.
Rebound Therapy is delivered by staff who have undertaken the required Rebound or British Gymnastics (BG) trampoline training.
The child benefits from Rebound Therapy in the following ways;
- Active functional physiotherapy working on the child’s muscles, joints, ligaments, leading to improved bodily function, coordination, head control, balance and saving reactions
- Improved cardio-vascular fitness
- Increased or decreased muscle tone
- Improved lung function, lymphatic drainage and cough reflex
