Arbour Vale School - School Links

Arbour Vale School works in partnership with a range of mainstream schools.

The purpose is to...

Enhance the curriculum our pupils receive
Broaden the range of experiences open to our pupils
Help pupils and teachers in mainstream schools to develop a better understanding of our pupils, and to take away the ‘mystery’ attached to pupils with special educational needs
To develop skills for independence.

To ensure our pupils take as active a role as possible in their local community
Some of our pupils attend other schools on a regular basis for specific lessons where we feel it will benefit the pupil. Some pupils from other schools come to our Arbour Vale for specific lessons.

We work together with mainstream schools when possible, participating in such events as Pupil Conferences, Dance or Drama projects, or providing work experience placements for students from local secondary schools. We give disabled students from mainstream schools the opportunity to take part in sporting events with our disabled students in which sports leaders from mainstream schools work with sports leaders from our school to run these events.  We also link with a local secondary school on an outdoor adventure residential abroad.

Through Sports College we work with a number of mainstream primary schools and one secondary school.  We provide training, curriculum development and support in a variety of ways especially with primary physical education lessons.

We also provide opportunities for mainstream staff to work with our pupils in either in a 'shadowing' role with a member of our staff, or by observing good practice.  This way we spread our knowledge and expertise and help those pupils with learning needs in mainstream schools.
