Many congratulations to our school football teams. We attended the Reading FC Disability Football Competition on 25th February and both our first and second teams won their respective competitions. SPORTS RELIEF Arbour Vale School entered into the spirit of Sports Relief by having a sport theme morning. The PE department organised many events including swimming and trampolining. Every pupil also participated in the mile long walk around the school sports pitch. Students in wheelchairs also competed with the help of their peers or staff. On Thursday 19th November 2009 Arbour Vale School hosted the Berkshire Special schools annual Boccia tournament. The day was attended by Arbour Vale School, Holyport Manor School and Brookfields School. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to be one of only 5000 Young Ambassadors nationwide. Health Achievement Awards We are very pleased to announce that the school came second at the Health Achievement Awards organised by the East Berkshire Primary Care Trust, winning a big trophy and the sum of £2000 to spend on health related projects! Here at Arbour Vale School we have been running the Living for Sport Project, in Partnership with SKY, since its launch 4 years ago. It has been a very successful course and has used sport as a tool for improving Behaviour, Attendance, School Work, Self Confidence and Self Esteem. Here are a few photos of our trip out yesterday to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club as part of the Living for Sport Celebration event. The pupils had a tour of the whole stadium, took part in a mock press conference, visited the changing rooms, walked down the tunnel, sat in the press office and visited the trophy rooms. Berkshire Youth Games On Sunday the 2nd of July, the MLD girls and boys football teams, representing Slough, headed off to Bradfield near Reading, for a fun filled day of competition. Redridge 2006 A party of 45 from Arbour Vale enjoyed a week of outdoor education activities in mid-Wales during March 2006. We stayed at the Redridge Centre, where all our needs were expertly met. Teacher Claire Bayfield came up with the brilliant idea of running a Puzzle it out Day for the entire school from Nursery through to Post 16. A whole day was spent focusing on team work, problem solving and communication.
